SDUSD's Jackson gives first State of the District address

SAN DIEGOSan Diego schools will become smarter, healthier and greener – despite the recession that is trying employees and compromising some student programs, said board President Shelia Jackson in her first State of the District address Thursday night.

 

San Diego school board president Shelia Jackson says San Diego Unified will become a smarter, healthier and greener school district despite massive budget cuts. She made that promise in the first-ever State of the District address yesterday. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.

Shelia Jackson, president of the San Diego Unified school board, was feted by State Superintendent Jack O'Connell on Thursday night at an unusual State of the District address that decried the budget cuts imposed by the state and put the school board and its initiatives front and center.
